SAU 16 SCHOOL DAY START TIME TASK FORCE One of the recommendations in our recently adopted SAU 16 Strategic Plan was to investigate the possibility of a later start time for our middle and high school students. Research supports later start times for older students but what impacts would such a decision have on SAU 16 schools?
Recently both the Oyster River and Portsmouth School Districts made the decision to start their middle and high schools later beginning in the 2017 – 2018 school years. SAU 16 is forming a “Task Force” to investigate the full impact of a change in start times for our schools. Any such change will impact our students, families, programs, buses, sending schools, and the community at large. This “Task Force” will be comprised of parents, teachers, staff members, school administrators, School Board Members, and community volunteers.
If you wish to help investigate the topic and impact of a change in school start times, or have any questions in this regard, please contact Assistant Superintendent Bill Furbush (firstname.lastname@example.org or 775-8679). This group will meet monthly for approximately two hours beginning on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 3:30 pm at the SAU 16 Central Office. Thank you in advance for your help. Sincerely, Bill Furbush Assistant Superintendent SAU 16
